Location / Area Attractions
You may chose to just sit back and relax, or consider us your home-base while visiting some of Maine's prettiest areas!
Some great places to visit while staying at Shady Acres!
Bangor - 10 Miles
Situated on 14 acres, Shady Acres offers a convenient and a comfortable destination, as well as a home-base for those pursuing local activities and outings in the greater Bangor area. Choose from nearby boating, golfing, and excellent shopping and dining opportunities. Some local attractions include visiting Cole Transportation Museum, which houses an extensive and fascinating exhibit, photographing the statue of fabled lumberman Paul Bunyan, visiting the Children's Museum with lots to do and see, driving by the home of author Stephen King, or going to the very popular Bangor State Fair - including harness racing.
Ellsworth - 1 Hour
Gateway to Bar Harbor and
Acadia National Park

Day trips to nearby areas in the region include the Maine Coast and the Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park. Acadia is the second most visited national park in the country and an extremely popular "must see" for many visitors to Maine. This is an easy trip from Shady Acres by traveling one of two routes to Ellsworth and Trenton where you approach beautiful Mount Desert Island - home of a great portion of Acadia National Park. Visit Thunder Hole, Jordan Pond, drive Park Loop Road with its breathtaking vistas, view Cadillac Mountain, stop at a lobster house for lunch, or explore downtown Bar Harbor and its many fascinating shops, restaurants, and opportunities for boating, sightseeing, biking, kayaking and more!
Greenville - 1 1/2 Hours
Gateway to Moosehead Lake
Another popular day trip from Shady Acres RV Park is the Greenville/Moosehead Lake Region. View beautiful countryside while traveling on uncrowded rural roads to the area. The smaller unspoiled town of Greenville is situated at the southern base of Moosehead Lake - Maine's largest lake. Here you may take a cruise on the steamboat Katahdin or go on a sight-seeing plane ride. Explore the western shore of the lake to Rockwood and beyond - glimpse Mt. Kineo. Explore the eastern shore and pass into the perimeters of Baxter State Park.
Millinocket - 1 1/2 Hours
Gateway to Baxter State Park/Mt. Katahdin
Traveling north from Bangor is the Millinocket Region, the eastern entrance to Baxter State Park and Mt. Katahdin. Baxter State Park is vast in its expanse and many logging roads weave throughout it. Facilities are more limited. These Great North Woods are magnificent, but it is advised that you plan your adventure in advance and carefully - much of the terrain and activities are best suited for the more rugged outdoors person, such as hiking, whitewater rafting, and mountain climbing. Some of us may stay on an easier course, enjoying the views and getting some glimpses of wildlife - and maybe even stopping for a picnic lunch!
